President Biden expressed support for the bipartisan funding framework reached by congressional leaders, highlighting its role in preventing a government shutdown and safeguarding important national priorities. The framework aligns with funding levels negotiated and signed into law in the previous spring, rejecting deep cuts to essential programs. President Biden thanked Leaders Schumer and Jeffries for their leadership in reaching the framework and called on congressional Republicans to fulfill their responsibility to fund critical domestic and national security priorities, urging them to cease government shutdown threats and act promptly.
The President declared a major disaster in the State of Rhode Island, authorizing Federal assistance for severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes that occurred from September 10 to September 13, 2023. The declaration allows for Federal funding to aid affected individuals in Providence County. Assistance may include temporary housing and home repair grants, low-cost loans for uninsured property losses, and various programs to support recovery efforts for individuals and business owners. Robert V. Fogel from FEMA has been appointed to coordinate Federal recovery operations in the affected areas. Additional designations may be made based on further damage assessments.
